This is a huge misconception brought about by the ability to mitigate damage with shields or retreive lost hp by causing damage within a certain amount of time. Bloodborne is a more defensive game than the Souls games because you're standing a specific range from enemies, dodging until you get an opening to attack. On the Souls games, having many shields that mitigate 90-100% damage, standing right up on the enemy with your shield up just incase you can't dodge is playing less defensively. More defensive as you have more options available but you play less defensive because you can pull a close range counter from a block and not worry about any repercussions.
