I'm not sure it would've changed much. Like Dr. Henry said, I don't think the fanbase was really there for that roster. A lot of those characters were still fairly new. What made SSB such a success was that the roster was immediately recognizable (outside of a few oddball characters like Ness). In PSABR, many iconic PS characters were pushed to the side in favor of more modern ones, and I just don't think it was the right choice.
