I agree that gen 7 was pretty dreadful. Gens since the 5th have been going downhill.

This gen isnt wasting time with gimmicks yet (though morpheus is coming) and its difficult to tell yet ofc (If we factor in portables then its at a definitive loss). So far, the biggest problem of the current gen is the relatively smaller ammount of software in offer. The previous generation made a leap the market wasnt ready for with the HD. It killed alot of development houses as a result and shrunk the variety of software on offer.

Will this gen be better than the last? Perhaps, but something tells me they will keep trying to shove gimmicks down our throats instead of simply focusing on making great games.

I would say that the 5th gen is one of the more lackluster ones tbh...

And i will forever be unable to agree with you. It was the gen that brought us 3D games. Everything was fresh and new. A huge variery of sucessful titles aswell since development budgets werent huge to make one game. We got countless great series like Resident evil, silent hilll, metal gear solid, gran turismo, relevant final fantasy, syphon filter, wild arms, suikoden, grandia, virtua fighter, sega rally, etc, aswell as the great installments in established series like mario 64, zelda OOT, etc. It was a never ending stream of great and innovative titles in every genre that has since been dieing a bit more with each subsequent gen.

No other gen holds a candle to it in terms of innovation until we move into "real" VR (not screen on your face, think holo deck).
