Historical precedence indicates that Sony will do a pricecut this year. So the question is not a matter of if, but when and by how much.

There are pros and cons from doing a $50 vs. a $100 pricecut. Sony can either opt to cut the price by $50 since that will allow the company to reap in more revenue per console. However, a $100 pricecut has the potential to actually earn Sony more money. Yes, less money will be earned per console, but it will generate more hardware sales than a $50 pricecut and consequently, increase software sales and PS+ subscriptions.

So it really boils down to what Sony sees. If the company thinks higher software sales and PS+ subscriptions from a $100 pricecut will generate more revenue than a $50 pricecut, then $299. Otherwise, $349.

I think a cool strategy would be if sony made a campaign announcing a $100 price cut for a limited time (such as 1 month or 6 weeks) and instead of returning the price back to $399, making the new price $349, they could announce the strategy from the beginning or keep it to themselves like when microsoft did it. It would give an insane amount of sales on the limited period while giving it a nice long term boost with the $50 permanent price cut, noone's done that before. Or maybe I'm crazy and it would be a stupid idea, what do you guys think?
