they voted for bush junior too. but Cruz is a latino, and still didnt win by a lot. sure he will take texas, but other rightwinger will not.

Well, if democrats were competitive in statewide elections I would agree with you, but since republicans are still dominating them in statewide elections then that is strong evidence the state isn't close to sliding to battleground territory.
There are plenty of other states that are far closer to becoming battlegrounds then Texas.

texas has almost 40% latinos, and isnt a white majority state anymore. it will be hard if the reps nominate a rightwinger, those are anti latino and women hate em.
