According to Aquamarine, who knows quite a lot on NPD, Amazon only constitutes 5% of all sales. The vast majority goes to Walmart, Gamestop, Best Buy, and Target.

This also explains why Amazon doesn't predict software rankings that well. As for hardware, I think the reason why it has had a perfect track record is because console buying habits on Amazon are similar to those in other retailers. However, software buying habits are not.
