The complete mold set was listed on ebay three times in 2010 to 2012, first at $5000 with a $8000 reserve, and received no bids, the second time listed at $4500 with no reserve, remained unsold, the last time listed at $4500 buy it now with option to make an offer, and that too went unsold.
So yeah, if you want me, or anyone else to believe the molds cost them $50,000 you are barking up the wrong tree. Additionally, I asked Tamron who actually works in the peripheral manufacturing industry about your claims they are using the same molds as the wii retro controller and heres what he has to say : "the wii retro controller is by interworks limited, who use the same shenzhen manufacturing facility as PDP and Nyko, to reduce their own production costs they commisioned the design rather than create it themselves, so while they get the product they want, they forego the mold manufacturing costs which are footed by the factory, in exchange for a lease period where at the end of said lease, the factory would be able to reuse the design for themselves with different branding.
Interworks is still within their lease period, so theyre able to continue to manufacture the product, but the factory still owns the molds, any dealings with future uses of the molds would be up to the factory not interworks, and subject to the end of the lease period, too. Conversion from wireless to wired would require significant retooling of the rear housing and structural retooling of the front housing, somethin the factory would not do unless they had a sizable PO lined up, a startuo company or kickstarter project cannot garuntee such a PO so would be refused. In short, the only way they could use that controller is by leaving it interworks branded and bundling it, converting it to wired or rebranding it themselves is both financially unfeasible and subject to a lease period which does not end for another 2 years. "
And with that, i maintain my stance, this is a shitty cashgrab. |
Where did I say they are making the controllers themselves? They are working WITH Interworks to make these controllers for them. They only manufacture the console shells and the cartridge shells.
