Just a thought would it be possible to take the PS4 in 5-6 years and make it portable. You would have instant gaming library and everyone would be experienced making games for it.

Now the power consumption is rumored to be around 130 watts while gaming on the PS4 and the only numbers i can find for the Vita are 7-15 watts.

So your looking at having to decrease power consumption by 90%. I don't think shrinking the components would be to hard with solid state (instead of hard drive) and memory cards and digital (instead of blu-ray). The components will also get smaller as they shrink the cpu/gpu and combine other chips.

But is it possible to save that much power consumption? I have my doubts.

16nm FinFET (from 28nm ---> 60% power reduction at same speeds).

That means by then power consumption goes from 130w ---> 52watts.

The Intels 3D transistors, what others call FinFETs makes a huge impact on power used. The current 28nm is without.

Also the jump from 28 -> 16nm is a pretty big jump (we ve been stuck on 28nm for way to long).

I dont think even 6 years from now a portable version of a ps4 is possible (same hardware just at lower processing nodes). Unless something drastic happens in the battery techology realm.

PS4 slim versions anyone? once they start useing 16nm FF.
