I'd say it reinforces that all people are equal. He did not break any exceptional ruling, he handed the maximum punishment for what the judge felt was contempt of tax laws. He's applying for probation. If he gets it, depsite being the harshest penalty, I could cry he's being treated unfairly for his celebrity status! So please don't scapegoat that. It's very very easy to.
Also, the tax laws seem pretty equal to Canadian. For every year you fail to file a tax form, there is a maximum fine of 25,000 and a year in prison. You need to be doing severe dodging to get that far though.
