Microsoft wanted something to go against Uncharted so they exclusive-d TR for a bit and Square Enix didn't want TR to go against Uncharted anyway. But now that Uncharted is delayed, by the time Square Enix wanted to port it to the PS4 Uncharted will probably be coming out that time as well, so it will be going against Uncharted anyway.
This deal probably couldn't have worked out better for Microsoft.
