eva01beserk said: It what said by others before but I completly Agree, Unlike the previous gens, This gen has added nothing new, all three just pumped up the graphics, and unlike before when consoles where at the top of the line and where the best graphics at the cheapest price, this time we dont have the best graphics but we do have the cheapest price. It wont be long untill any pc starts beating the consoles in power. I know powwer is not the main reason why consoles are popular, but when they dont do anything to diferentiate from the previous gen aside from power, then its a problem. Even phones and tablets will be able to do what the new consoles can do in 2-3 years. I do get that sony is in the best position here and when morpheous comes out it might completly revitilese the console and add something that will keep it going for a lot longer. specially if it release at a low cost considering how expensive oculous is guessed to come to the market and ontop of a high end pc as well. Im gessing only the already very small master race will be getting into that. But that is yet to be seen so I stay with my short life cycle premise. |
I honestly could care less what PC, phone, or tablet gamers are doing right now. Most of the media is portraying that this generation is going to be short, but they have also said that console gaming is going to die. It makes sense that the game companies are going to react to how the consumers buy their products and not based off of what the media says. If the sales seem to die down much quicker than expected, then this generation is going to be short. Conversely, if sales continue to flourish, then the generation is going to continue well into the life of the PS4, XB1, and Wii U.
But this is where you brought up a good point in that Project Morpheus is going to extend the life of this generation...well at least for Sony. I understand that many console gamers feel like it wasn't a huge graphical leap; however I feel that virtual reality is going to define and revolutionize gaming this generation. Having only high end graphics, like what we see on current PCs, would not have made this generation last at all.
But then one would say that it we be better to have high end graphics AND Project Morpheus to completely define this generation. Although that would be the best scenario, I don't think this would be very plausible. If these consoles performed at 4K resolution, then Project Morhpheus would have to have 4K TVs as well. This would only drive up the price of the periphal, thus causing lower sales for the very thing that I believe is going to change gaming. Having a high end console (4K resolution) with only 1080p TV screens in Project Morpheus sort of defeats the purpose in having a high end console. That is why I believe a cheaper console with affordable periphals was the right decision.
**Note** All of this rests on Virtual/Augmented Reality being a commercial success and I understand if you or others have differing opinions.
