Ahh, well, I mean, it comes down to the finer details.  Some appear to assume that only women play freemium games (not true, I play the Simpsons Tap Out, but I don't pay for anything), but, I would be interested in delving deeper into the statistics.  And I think the question of those who identify as gamers, versus those who do not is also an interesting study too.
