Just about everything that can be compared is compared, cars, hifi, houses, computers, games consoles. People like to know which is more powerful and which is the better choice. With games consoles the games themselves are more important but if your someone mainly intterested in multi-format games then clearly you would want to know which console is more powerful.
Apart from xbox fanboy's I doubt there is anyone stupid enough to think that new api's will get around hardware limitations of a console. Both consoles are improving their development software and games are gradually improving and developers are getting more experienced with developing for both consoles but lower performance components will never magically change into higher performance components.
The xbox one is still an absolute powerhouse compared to wii u.
