A slim PS4 at this point is way too soon. No console had its slim counterpart released within two years after launch. If we're going to see a slim, it will be next year. What may happen, though, is an internal revision that will drastically reduce manufacturing costs. Samsung began mass producing 8-gigabit GDDR5 chips. The PS4 currently uses 16 4-gigabit GDDR5 chips, so Sony can cut down the number of chips in half as well as shrinking the APU die.

While history agrees with you: DDR5 can now use less slots A processor die shrink already exists according to rumor
If they could do it now, why wait?

Because putting out a Slim PLUS a $100 cut is playing too many cards and too soon. To keep momentum constant, the best thing to do this year would be to cut to $299-$349. Then, late next year, release the PS4 Slim with another $50 cut. Then, the final big card to play in 2017 would be to drop to $199. Finally, in 2018 we may see another $50 cut, most likely the final one, possibly with a final Slim revision. It's also the same year we will probably hear about the PS5.
