Nintendo sold the Gamecube in the US at a loss of $9.00 for the first few months but other than that, you are correct.

 9.00 you say didn't catch that when I looked it up. You said for the first few months what changed to make it profitabale, a smaller chip die perhaps.

Had to do with initial manufacturing from what I heard but no details what it was.
