i partially agree, the ps3 is selling due in part to the success of the ps2 but also due in part to the success of the orignal playstation.
the ps1/psone was the first ever consolde to dethrone the mighty nintendo. it sold like crazy due to its cheap format and very wide selection and variety of games.
similarly, even though it was the least powerfull of the past generation, the ps2 still managed to keep its crown as king. how? by again, doing what it did the past generation, offer a truck load of games with again a very wide variety. ps2 was actually what help jump start the dvd into what it is now.
and now, the ps3 is selling even if it has a smaller liblary, even if it is freakingly expensive because it is a PLAYSTATION. and again, their banking on the ps3 to again jump start the interest for blu-ray. the bad news is, the games arent there yet but since its got the brand of a playstation, you can bet you ass that many a people will buy it thinking that the games are coming...(are they? no idea, but ffxiii, tekken6 and gt5 are all i need to warrant a purchase)
