I usually regard gameplay as the most important element in a game, BUT it's very important to realise that a game can be excellent having a great story and simpler game mechanics: The Walking Dead from Telltale games is a prime example. And I think the OP actually confuses GRAPHICS with ART STYLE; they're VERY different from one another. Graphics is there to SERVE the art style. Again, this is something The Walking Dead does very well.

A game is at it's best when Gameplay, Story and Art Style helps, supports and serves each others.
