Kind of the nail in the coffin when you're a historical competitor being outdone by ps2 and then two new announcements of gamecube and xbox, a new entrant coming in with all the same ideas you have.
If anything, it works better with the analogy extending into the newer movies, with ms and sega being friends, and then ms finishing it off.
