It would be similar to Nintendo delaying a 3D Mario like 64 - Galaxy 2 to Wii U's successor imo
Some fans will understand the decision but others may feel like the developer is abandoning the system and their fans.
Edit: Nevermind, I didn't take account of the developers' previous support toward the system.
