Can you provide a link? I mean 226 sites sounds pretty insane considering how most games don't even get that many professional reviews.

http://gotypicks.blogspot.com/2011/09/2011-game-of-year.html keep in mind not all of them are from critic and are instead from reader picks on websites. The majority are still critics though.

Interesting, a lot of the sites are super, super, super small or missing now.

Here are all of the sites which are missing/no longer exist for Batman.

Then according to their own rules they say no single personal opinions/blogs, but include this list constructed by a single guy.

"I, for example, can’t get down with first-person-shooters, which include blockbusters like the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series —"

and they recount his post here as a second listing (both by John Wenzel.)

I definitely think they should work on their criteria methods.

However, though, Skyrim is obviously the undisputed game of 2011 with the most GOTY awards. As for third-fifth place it depends on what you would include. I personally wouldn't include the same article written by the same guy, only published on two different sites (on a non gaming site and the other a blog), as two separate awards for example.
