The megadrive/genesis was so popular for so long and nobody I knew bought another sega console after it. When playstation came along it looked soooo much better so a lot of people saw sega as "old crap". Things didnt line up right and it came down to image. Many peop,e also got an N64 but the ps1 seemed to dominate the unfortunate dreamcast. It feels like it was just on the shelf at a very expensive price one day and then it was in the clearance bin.
