The question I have to ask is, if the reason for all these remasters is to allow newcomers to enjoy, why aren't they titles they can download in their original format? Like purchasing the PS3 version of The Last of Us on PSN from your PS4.

Well, first of all, the PS3 version can't run on the PS4.

PS2 games ran on an emulator on the PS3.  Doing the same for PS3 on PS4 is a completely different beast.  In order to emulate, you generally need hardware that is much much better than the focus.  There isn't enough of a jump between PS3 and PS4.  I usually see numbers like 10x-100x to be able to emulate well.

The PS3 to PS4 jump is at the bottom of that bracket, and that's on the GPU side, the CPU side, the more important side is almost a decrease in power.

So in order for that to happen it must be ported, and if they are going to spend that time porting, they might as well add some quick boosts to be able to take better advantage of the hardware.

Then the question I have to ask is why aren't some of these newer remastered titles part of the PS4 digital upgrade program? I mean Injustice: Gods Among Us was included, what's the reason for TLoU and Tomb Raider not being a part of that program?
