Of course average reviews are flawed as the reviews are ranking games based on how good they were for their time. If Oot released today as is, it wouldn't have that score. It also had a lot less people reviewing it back then compared to today.

In my opinion that just makes it that much more impressive that it received that high of a score. If a game has a 100 reviews, 1 or 2 reviews won't make much of a difference on the overall score, whereas a game that has less reviews, say 20, will be heavily affected by 1 or 2 bad reviews.

Seems to be much different in reality. Games always start off doing well on Gamerankings. Games have passed OoT with about 40 reviews, then once stupid fansites and idiotic sites like 'Games for Church' gives things like Gears of War a bad score it ruins the overall score. Having less reviews back in the day was a plus because it was limited to official reviewers. Now any moron with a site that gets more than a few hits can get their reviews posted on game averaging sites.
