Female Link idea really irks me, same as I would hate to see Lars Croft, John Dark or Caden Archer.
If anything they should really try to make him a bit more manly - at least at Pipit's level, not that he's too manly himself, but at least you can't mistake him for a girl. And while we're at it, around Pipit's age would be nice too - you can have a Zelda universe character that's bit more grown-up and not being "fuck-yeah mature".
Though, to be honest, I often try to imagine Bjorn from Vikings season 3 as Link and how that would work if Nintendo ever pulls 180.
