but why link and not zelda or a new character... that's what I don't understand, honestly.

Because, chances are the new character probably wouldn't have a leading role in a Zelda game. We just think that Zelda will always be unplayable (although games like Mario 3DW made peach playable). I don't see Nintendo allowing Zelda to actually be a character you control. Plus, did I mention a female link has never been done before! It's not like reincarnation is sexist or anything.

But than by that logic. A male was reincarnated into a womans body. I rather have a female character option to switich to, as the gender. Since Link's name is really nowhere in context. Anyone can fit the role. Like Pokemon. The other gender is not just the female version of the dude. It be like making a male Samus. I rather have a new male character as a option. Not a male called Samus.

But Zelda isn't as loose as Pokemon. There is a whole book on the game's history and game history. Pokemon just does whatever and history isn't really that important. Pokemon focuses on you, the player, as you can be a boy or a girl while Zelda, it is a legend. Link is a concrete character that comes to do good things. Who knows who Link may be as the hero of time is...well I guess if Nintendo wanted Link to be a female they would call here the heroine of time or wind or whatever the case may be. This is too confusing. We just want a female link because link as a whole is a cool character. The Link now is more like Ashitaka(Princess Mononoke) anyway, so I know Link won't be female anytime soon. We're just being ranty and hopeful.

Agreed. It is ranty. But I've been through this before, in comics. Writers love to create new characters, which is great, but rip off established titles. Either because of lazyness or sales. With the Zelda games. The title is for another character. Which would be fine for a new hero lead. That's why they're 5 Robin's in Batman. One being a young girl. I never like that. You create something in the universe, I'm all for it. But make sure it's a new character that doesn't screw up things for another. So I don't have to be calling them Link 2, Robin 4, Spider-Woman 2, Black Aqualad etc.
