I think their point is that even though you're not from NA (neither am I), NA and Japan is where the modern, global industry originated and thus it affected all of us. The North American video game crash of 83 didn't affect Japan, Europe and the rest of the world. So, maybe Nintendo saved console gaming in NA (only).
