In Japan the letter X is pronounced "cross" and it has different connotations from here in the West, where it is mostly considered the go-to representation of a variable. I don't know whether that is also the case in Japan, but the use of the letter as "cross" is certainly worth mentioning when that is virtually the only shadow of a hint we have to go on.
