what makes gt5p and warhawk work is they aren't big games. Its less than a 2 gig download for both I believe. Even on my relatively slow internet (1.5mbps) I can download that in a relatively short time.

That wasn't the point I was trying to make though. It was being argued in this thread that a Steam-like service or a boxed retail service couldn't exist for console games, and I said both could co-exist the same way PC boxed games and Steam games co-exist. I undestand there are speed limitations for some, but that's why those with higher speeds can benefit from something like this, and everyone else can simply go to their local store and pick games up.

Also consider this wouldn't take place until possibly the next iteration of consoles, and there will be plenty of time for more internet users and faster speeds to be available to some that are left out in the cold right now. All it does is leave options open. It expands the possible market.

A downloadable service could even offer games $5 cheaper than stores do to help it along, since packaging isn't a worry.

The console could allow the user to download a game and play any other owned game simultaneously so even if the DL times are long, your console doesn't need to sit stagnant while the process is going on.
