I tend to agree somewhat, just not in the way people usually take the term 'annual franchise'. Only in the way that we don't get 'main-line' entries or updated versions every year, and even with spin-offs and remakes there's still a couple years here and there where nothing is released, but, with those, they do keep the series alive almost every year.
