Well, I'd say my answer is probably a bit different depending on which platforms we're talking about.

For Wii U and 3DS, since both are backwards compatible, it's really a question of if I'm done on 6th gen, which I have been for the most part. I still have a GBA and Wii stored away, so I have that option if I feel like an older game, but most of the games in my immediate backlog can be played on the current generation. I am still playing some 7th gen software on these systems though, mostly some RPGs I skipped or wanted to replay. If these systems weren't backwards-compatible, I wouldn't have picked them up as early as I did.

For PS3/PS4, it's a bit different though, because of the BC issue. I have a lot of PS3 games in my backlog still, and since the PS4 can't play them, the system would basically be collecting dust while I clear my backlog. I currently have Dragon's Crown, Tales of Xillia, and Ni no Kuni to play, and I'll be picking up Persona 5 and Tales of Zestiria on this system as well. I'm sure I'll pick up a PS4 down the line, but not until the exclusive library fills out a bit more; the current line-up isn't quite compelling enough for me to purchase another system just yet.
