Ever heard of rechargeable batteries? They can last about 20 hours with each charge which is enough for a normal day gaming session.

If you live in one of the more technologically advanced nations in the world? Get with it. Rechargable batteries have been around forever. If you're not using them already, and you're crying about the price of batteries, you deserve to be charged the extra money. Most people who use their CD or MP3 players, digital cameras, gaming controllers, and anything else that has a heavy battery drain have been smart enough to switch to rechargables years ago.
