That's no reason to force using the gamepad. WWHD used the gamepad to switch items, yet players could still use the pro controller instead without losing that very minor and uneeded functionality. Shouldn't be an issue here either.

Though the feature in Splatoon doesn't seem like a minor like in WW. It seems more vital and could be a deciding factor in matches between winning or losing a match, since the screen makes it easy to jump to certain areas on the map. Wouldn't that seem a bit of a handicap if you couldn't do that with a pro controller?

Though if they can configure this feature to work on a standard controller, then more controller options should definitely be offered.
