I disagree. That would mean you couldn't see a big gap between Final Fantasies I-XII and XIII onward. But I most certainly do. Thus I'm forced to call your analysis into question.
Perhaps there's simply a limit to how far a FF game can deviate from what can vaguely be called the formula before this reinvention process of yours becomes a liability.
Who knows. But I'll bet that gap I referred to before is placed in a different spot in the series depending on who you ask. But if I'm asked, I'd say it's between XII and XIII that somebody at Squenix went off the deep end, but I can see traces of that madness creeping in around the edges of XII.
