True, seems MS wants to control how everyone plays online while xbox gamers should pay the bills. Pretty unfair

unfair? kinda, but here's the thing and this is kind of harsh. The users have to share some of the blame, these companies will only do what they think they can get away with. They got away with charging for XBL which more and more people started to see over the years that maybe they really didnt need to pay for it. No offense but the bed was kinda made already.

The whole XBL confused me from day one. What were people actually paying for? I know you pay to play online but what were they REALLY paying for? They had stuff like Netflix behind a paywall, no one else was doing that. They only just started adopting the PS+ "free" game thing with subscriptions. Cross game chat is a hardware issue (vita has that feature). And the whole it runs better is a myth (it depends on the game). Believe me if MS could charge on PC they would, but they cant, they know that, PC gamers know that.

It's not harsh in the slightest.  It's reality.  The mass adoption of the pay for MP model by console users, directly impacted an industry standard of players hosting/renting their own servers.  To hear them complaining about the unfairness of it all is the height of hypocrisy.  Players renting and controlling their own servers, is by far the best method of doing this.  Not only do players have real-time policing ability (ergo, banning idiots), but they can control many many other aspects of the server as well.  For regulation servers (for leveling or whatever), there were always 'check boxes' to ensure you're playing w/in the legal parameters set out by the devs (ergo, no mods, no bots, no assists etc...).
