Xbox Live PC free and console gamers are not happy

i could be wrong about this but isnt that what PC gamers were doing all along. Wasnt it the companies that started taking away the users ability to host their own servers?

Correct, and in the process they destroyed a rather popular business model of renting servers to individual(s) for games they wanted to host.  We had two servers running for years, one in-house and one we rented from a company.  Those days are long gone.
