I honestly haven't played GGXrd, so I can't comment on it, but I'll take a look at some videos and get back to you on that. |
Look at this, it looks like (high quality) 2D sprites:

but in reality they are 3D models, (which means that sometimes the camera can take certain angles to show off special moves or finishers)

in my opinion this is the best looking fighting game out there, the quality of the models, the colorful characters, rich scenary, awesome character designs, everything looks gorgeous to me, and it takes the 2D sprites to 3D without compromising the artstyle like SF did (which from what i understand is what you dont like about SFV)
also since its 3D models, they are able to put more details in the characters and we finally have 2D (sprite looking) games with character with detailed faces

Plus the animation advantages of working with 3D models

EDIT: just saw youre edit, and i gotta say we agree on one thing we both prefer 2D looking models for 2D fighters (well at least for games that had that type of artstyle since the beginning.)
now to the OP:
yeah i didnt expected SFV for this year so i have no problem with this, (actually this helps my wallet since there is to many games that i want to buy this year).
