Retro Studios was initially a partnership between them and Nintendo. Nintendo had bought Retro Studios well before the release of Metroid Prime which had meant total control of their development from top employees at Nintendo.
I'm not denying his involvement as a producer of Metroid Prime but you can't exactly discard his influence on the project as a member of the board of directors for Nintendo ...
