It depends upon how you look at it: the brand is a success (What cave dweller hasn't heard of XBox?), but the product platform is a failure (No BoD would take consistent departmental losses, year-on-year, lightly.). Sometimes, I wonder if the former is MS' real objective: find a away (even at a loss) to establish a presence in consumers' homes. It worked extremely well for Apple, who is now in the process of effectively unifying their platforms (albeit without the significant losses).
