I'm not really much of an artist myself but there's plenty of tutorials online! The link below I thought had some pretty neat ones.

As for getting better, my background was in piano and really the more you practice, not only do you become better at playing the piano and memorizing songs. But you start to learn other skills like you be able to start playing a song by ear. So I would think you should keep on doing tutorials and keep on practicing and eventually you'll pick up enough skills and experience to start drawing your own stuff!
