I'm sorry if this is a stupid idea or already in use in some form, but I thought that a good way to simplify PC parts to make PC gaming more attractive is to better catagorize PC parts. In another thread I stated that I have no clue what my mother board is so I have a hard time figuring out what type of RAM to buy or if my power supply is good enough to support a new video card or if my cooling is sufficient for more powerful items.
So I was thinking that for mother boards they could catagorize them like vehicles. When you are looking for a new part for your car you look and it says good on 2000 Ford. Why not have mother boards classified the same way? Good for 2005 brand x mother board so you know easier what RAM would work etc. Another thing is to have a program (maybe there already is one) built in to windows that says your power supply is X watts and you are using up Y watts of power at max. That way when you go to upgrade your processor or graphics card you know you can upgrade so much before you out do your power supply.
Thoughts?
