Shotguns was useless in PVE until this patch... now I did some test and close to Pretoriam you can kill them with 2 shots with a Void shotgun... it is finally a shotgun because it needs to be the best weapon for close range.
BTW Pulse Rifles are really good now too... choose between them and ARs are personal preferences now.
