Biggest Gaming Icon (besides Mario)

So my question to you is who do you feel would be the biggest face in gaming, besides Mario of course. I am not including a generic "Call of Duty" person on this list, only characters that gamers and non-gamers alike would recognize. I'm saying Sonic would be my choice of most recognizable. Even though the series has died off,  he's still an extremely known character that dashes across the minds of children and adults every now and then, and  apicture would certainly be known.
