Yes, Sydney is not old enough to have classical / rennaisence period buildings. In fact Sydney at that time would be a rather unimpressive backwater architecturally speaking compared to Florence and Berlin. It does have a harbour though, so that's why they put tall ships there, which at least gives it somewhat of a sophisticated look.
