Can you explain? I love open world games, but i can understand why people might dislike them. I dont get how the controls are too convuluted though?

i didn't get all that far into the game but it comes down to this..

that grid of items in the lower left-hand corner was way to complex which made gameplay, imo, clunky and i only had like half of those availible to me.   then i had  a whatever happend that meant i didn't play the game for about 2 weeks,.. when i came back i couldn't do anything right and got frustrated and quit the game.
