9 was better as was 10. In fact 8 is my least favorite mainline FF game. Back in 1998 the game was one of the most beautiful ever made so that gave it some redeeming value, now it just looks horrid. I is the only FF fame I refuse to replay.

The ones in FF8 aren't just cutscenes that you'll be watching though. Them being long is good since it gives you so much time to boost.

Like I said before, all you need is doomtrain, and you don't even need to bother boosting, you're only summoning him for the status effects, vit 0 in particular.  Though doomtrain isn't available until fairly deep in the game, you still don't really need to summon too much as there are other, more efficient ways to do damage fairly early in the game.
