It's funny because Linux fans (the hardcore who don't touch windows/macs and hate them) think Steam OS will be the way of the future, that it will crush windows and Mac OS's and unify everyone under the OS because it's free and Linux based.
The extra funny part is it won't be happening because of all the reasons others have already listed, it;s just not going to take the gaming world by storm, it won't threaten MS and it won't overide windows, only those who use Linux and maybe the odd few will use it but they'll never outnumber windows in the slightest.
I doubt they would move the OS to consoles though, that would imply throwing Steam on XB1/PS4 which would also imply getting PC games to work on a console which isn't going to happen either, too much money would be required to meet such needs and I can't see Valve throwing away the PC gamers loyal to their service under a truck for two consoles.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
