The only people saying "Yes, Nintendo should go third party", are dumbass analysts who don't actually understand video games, and MS/Sony fanboys who just want Nintendo franchises on their console of choice.

I would wager that a majority of gamers, even those who are not huge Nintendo fans, but are also not fanboys in the other direction, would agree that Nintendo remaining first party and making their own consoles, is good for the industry.

 

The more I think about it, the more I really do feel that it would be good if this rumor of a "unified" console/portable platform for their next system would be the best way for them to go. That way all their development efforts would be on one system, and they could put all their resources into making that one console, which takes the WiiU/GamePad idea further, making it a true "play at home or on the go" experience. I think that would work out well for everybody.
