PS4 has all the major third-party games. The PlayStation brand is strong enough to where it only needs to be put in a better position than its primary competition (Xbox) and it will dominate. The PS3 already did better on a launch-aligned basis than the 360 despite starting off with a significantly higher price point and an arguably inferior online service. With the PS4 having a $100 lower price at launch, PSN has improved to be an equal to XBL, and Sony doing an overall better job with marketing and messaging (do we need to go over the events of spring 2013 again?), it was a foregone conclusion that the PS4 would handily win this generation.

The Wii U lacks major third-party games. Without said games, then like the Wii it must rely on its gimmick as the primary selling point of the system. The touchscreen gamepad was a much tougher sell than the Wii Remote was, and Nintendo failed at marketing it properly. Ergo, the Wii U will appeal mostly to core Nintendo fans.

Exclusives aren't as big of a big deal these days. Back in the 80s & 90s, the vast majority of games were exclusives. Now the PS4 and XBO share at least 90% of the same games, and those multiplatform titles are typically what sells the most. Those are the games the majority of gamers demand the most.

Another great reason why I call this article into question. This isn't to say exclusives shouldn't be great, but multi-plats are better in terms of profit for both Sony and Microsoft.
