Obviously the PS3 has the better back catalog by the simple merit of having over 8 years on the market and then there's the fact that a good portion of games for the PS4 are also available on the PS3, albeit at scaled back performance.

The PS3 is unquestionably the better media player and the simple availability of a media remote makes it a better BD player as well.

On the negative side, the PS3 is hobbled by low memory which results in sluggish response time relative to the PS4 when closing and switching apps or even just basic user inputs. Everything on the PS4 is simply more responsive.

Clearly the PS4 is a more capable piece of hardware even if it's just by the simple merit of what a 7 year difference buys in technology and hardware specs.

As much as I'd like to transition off the PS3 for general use (anything not related to PS3 games), the PS4 isn't there yet, but I give it another year or two at the most before the PS3 becomes relegated to Old Game console status and nothing more.
