Of course there is also multi-format games which can be brilliant. The wii u started off getting piss-poor multi-format games weaker than last gen and now it doesn't get any at all. The PS4 gets the very best multi-format console games only beaten by PC versions on reasonable spec PC hardware.
The reason the wii u has failed to sell is its not really an upgrade from last gen its a sideways movement. Yes graphically better with a bit more memory but with far weaker cpu performance and no built in hard drive. This time around it didn't have a gimmick that caught consumers interest like the motion controller.
In all fairness Nintendo has done brilliantly well to sell 9m of such a weak underpowered console at such a premium price. 9 million is quite impressive. I think if Sony or Microsoft had released such a console at the same price I don't think either would have sold anywhere near 9m.
